KPOPCON 2013 “Volume Up” Is Just Days Away
UC Berkeley’s very own unique answer to the tradition convention!
KPOPCON at UC Berkeley is the only campus-based KPOP festival in the United States. This is the second year of the convention, which is aiming to be bigger and better than the past. The theme of the 2013 convention is “Volume Up”, referencing the positive, beat energy of the 4Minute song. The main ideals of the convention are to provide academic perspectives on the KPOP phenomena and to provide fans of the genre with a positive environment. Bias battles are clearly discouraged and educational development emphasized. In an essence, this is a grown up KPOP convention.
Dancer and KPOP choreographer extraordinaire, Aimee Lee Lucas will present a dance workshop, along with a question and answer session. For those seeking a more academic perspective on KPOP, the fascinating KPOP Kollective project will be present. KPOP Kollective is currently studying the phenomena of the Hallyu and international KPOP fans. While this may sound slightly droll, it is research projects like this that are being closely watched by many of your favorite Korean entertainment agencies, as they seek to bring you the best artists you would like to see outside of Korea.
As an event that was coordinated by KPOP fans, there are many unique elements in place, unseen at other events. Of note is the Fan Meet, which is open to fans of all groups and biases. This proves to be an excellent opportunity for leaders from various fan groups to network and community ideas.
Lucy Zhou will present an extremely important workshop on how to start and maintain your own KPOP fan site. The resident KPOP cover dance group at UC Berkeley, soNE1, will present a cover dance workshop. KPOPCON12 attendee Hanuel Lee will present a unique perspective on what life is like as a trainee of Pledis Entertainment.
KPOPCON 2013 is a two day event, running from Saturday, February 16th, to Sunday, February 17th.
Tickets are $20 for two day admission without a tee shirt and $23 or two day admission with an event shirt.
